Pittsburgh Live Belly Off Competition and Showcase of the Stars

Saturday, November 7th, 7 pm, doors open at 6:30 pm   |   Admission $15.

Sunday, November 8th, 3 pm    |    Admission $15
  • Saturday and Sunday: Join us for an evening and afternoon of live music, nail biting dance competition, and the stars’ performances!
  • Saturday Night: The Live Music Belly-Off is a competition that focuses on impromptu dancing to a live band. All contestants will receive a short taxim followed by an upbeat tune to finish their mini set. The upbeat tune will be drawn from Ishtar’s repertoire and challengers perform the selected tune on the spot. An internationally renowned panel of judges will determine the winners!
  • Sunday afternoon: The Recorded Music Belly-Off is a competition similar to So you think you can dance format. Competitors learn a routine and perform it the following day, closing the performance with his/her own choice of music!

2015 PBFC Workshop Series!

Our workshop series for the 2015 Pittsburgh Bellydance Festival promises to AMAZE! We have choreography workshops in cabaret, tribal fusion and jazz fusion styles,  an exciting workshop learning to dance with a live band, and chance to experience Rosa Noreen’s signature Delicious Pauses!

SATURDAY, 10:00 -11:15 am

Babette will be teaching: Jazz/Bellydance fusion

Learn a sassy and fun choreography incorporating Bellydance and jazz moves to a smooth Lana Del Ray song. Babette will lead students through a long warmup, and after that we’ll dive straight into choreography so we have as much time as possible to dance! Students should know that the choreography does include floor work, however Babette is prepared to offer modification to those who need it. Get ready to strut your stuff!

SATURDAY, 11:30 am – 12:45 pm

Sherena will be teaching: A high energy, fast paced Cabaret Choreography as part of the Recorded Music Competition! Non-competitors are welcome to take the workshop and learn some of Sherena’s sizzling shimmies and moves!

SATURDAY, 2:00 – 3:15 pm

Maria will be teaching: A Tribal Choreography as part of the Recorded Music Competition! Non-competitors are welcome to take the workshop and experience first hand Maria’s slow and juicy signature moves!

SATURDAY, 3:30 – 4:45 pm 

Fairuza will be teaching: Dancing with a Live Band, working closely with Ishtar, our competition band, Fairuza will lead you through the challenges and opportunities of performing to live music! This is a rare opportunity to Dance with a Live Band, so don’t miss out on the fun!

SUNDAY, 10:00 – 11:15 am

Rosa will be teaching:

Delicious Pauses for a drum solo vs. Delicious Pauses for a taqsim, creating stillness in movement. Learn the technique that has made Rosa a name in modern bellydance!


Saturday BYOL (Bring Your Own Lunch) Lecture

Sherena will also be leading a lecture on establishing your own personal practice: Learn ways to improve your personal practice and to set goals toward becoming the best dancer you can be!

Sunday BYOL (Bring Your Own Lunch) Lecture

Fairuza will also be leading a lecture called Silhouettes: Techniques you need to perfect your unique silhouette. This lecture will include the techniques you’ll need to create a character, embody the music and perfect your unique silhouette. I will work individually with all the participants and give them advice on how to make their own costumes or help them find costumes that will look amazing on them.

Amartia is presenting one of our fetaured lectures in the series!

Bellydance by AmartiaAmartia is an award-winning bellydancer from Baltimore, Maryland. She specializes in Greek style bellydance, is the creator of the Bellydance Happy Hour, and is a local favorite at many restaurants for over 10 yrs.

LECTURE: Since the business side of bellydance is not often taught, you ladies are in for a real treat as Amartia is offering a lecture revealing many of the secrets on the restaurant dancing side of the business.

Here she will guide you through the waters of scheduling, negotiating, performing, and finding an establishment. You will get examples of real-life scenarios and be able to ask all the questions you have been curious about in order to avoid mistakes and thrive in your own area. Get ready to boost your belly dance business!

As a child, Amartia started out Greek folk dancing and stumbled upon bellydance one day at the gym…it was love at first sight! Since then she has become the reigning Jewel of the Nile, has been featured in both Fuse and Zaghareet magazine and is known as the “Carey Bradshaw of costuming”.

Meet Anjelica!

Anjelica has been a dancer since she was very young and is based in Toronto, Canada.  Since Bellydance came into her life,  Anjelica has been enjoying the travel and excitement it has brought. Highlights of Anjelica’s solo Bellydance career have been opening for International legend Dina in Washington DC, performing for the Princess of Jaipur, performing with Thomas Dolby (famous for his single “She Blinded Me With Science,” opening for Asmahan at Raks Madrid,  performing for Alex Lifeson and Geddy Lee of Rush, winning the coveted “Hall of Fame” award at Bellydancer of the Universe 2013 (Winning the Drum Solo, Fusion, and Taxim categories) and being invited to teach Flamenco Fusion at Bellydancer of the Universe 2014.  She is thrilled to be a part of the Pittsburgh Bellydance Festival and is gracious to Janim as well as the other dancers in Pittsburgh, PA area for their support and enthusiasm.
