Sunday, November 6th

  • 9:30 – 11:30 pm Modern veil workshop with Andalee
  • 11:30 – 1:30 pm Drum Solo Workshop with Courtney
  • 1:30 – 2:30 pm Lunch lecture and discussion

WORKSHOPS:

West Coast Oriental Choreography by Courtney: It’s always fun to try someone else’s style!! Courtney will teach a choreography that embodies the oriental style of the West Coast with a new classic veil intro!  (Veils will be needed for the opening.)

Drum Solo Choreography by Courtney: Audiences LOVE a good drum solo!! Always a crowd favorite, Courtney will teach you her latest drum solo as well as her philosophies behind drum solo choreography. Finger cymbals optional!

Modern Veil Choreography by Andalee: This Workshop will include some Fabulous basic Techniques used in American Cabaret Style Belly Dance, as well as some of the more Modern and Artistic Techniques that have been showing up in Contemporary American Cabaret, and Theatrical Belly Dance. We will talk about ideas of Staging and Creating Shapes and Designs with our Veils to create Mood and texture. Whether you are “Cabaret” or “Fusion” this class is designed to give you the necessary Veil Technique and some Fun, unique combos that can be personalized to suit your own Style. Includes Dramatic silk veil Choreography! -Bring rectangular Silk Veil
The Taqsim by Andalee: In this class we will delve into the depths of Taqsim. Arabic Taqasim follow similar overall patterns while following a particular structure of whichever musical mode, or Maqam, it is in. We will work on instrument recognition, creating textures, layering, and improvising all while paying close attention to the emotional content of the piece. Time will be spent on several different Instruments of the Taqsim which may include Kanun,  Oud, Violin, Ney, Clarinet, and Accordian.
